He Hears and Cares

Read Exodus 1:1 through 3:10; Matthew 13:24–26

The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob (Exodus 2:23–24).

Joseph saved Egypt from famine and death. He should have been a folk hero, but he was soon forgotten, and the new king on the block turned the Israelites into slaves. The situation worsened. The Egyptians worked the Israelites harder and harder until they cried out to God.

How discouraged the Israelites must have felt. They cried for help, but did God even hear them? They saw no proof of His mercy or care. But today’s Scripture tells us that God did care. In fact, God already was working on His big rescue by preparing Moses.

Do you become discouraged when you don’t see ready evidence that He cares or will rescue you? Be certain that God hears and cares and has already set a plan in motion. If you feel overwhelmed, act in faith that God has heard you and that help is on its way.

Prayer Suggestion:

Father God, help me realize that Your heart beats for me even when I can’t hear it.
