A New Heart

Read Ezekiel 36:1 through 39:29

Sin destroys us all. It takes what God has made as very good and transforms it into something less than good—something bad. Perhaps the worst effect of sin is what it does to the heart.

The human heart that God created to care for others and reach out to Him becomes hardened like stone through sin, and we miss the glorious blessings that God planned for us. We do not care the way God wants us to. Others’ problems do not mean anything to us. We focus on ourselves.

Yet to those who ask Him, God promises,

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26).

Ezekiel prophesied that God would cleanse Israel and transform their hearts to love God and others.

God wants His people to have a heart of flesh, or a loving, teachable heart. Through accepting Christ into our lives and becoming His child, and letting the Holy Spirit rule in our hearts, we can have that changed heart that God wants us to have.

CHALLENGE FOR TODAY:

By accepting Jesus Christ as Savior, you can receive a heart that will love God.
