Read 2 Samuel 14:1 through 15:37
Absalom, King David’s son, did not have an easy life. He fled from home after killing his half brother for raping his sister. Eventually he was allowed to return home, but his relationship with his father was strained. Absalom undermined his father’s authority by promising that he would be a more compassionate ruler than David.
Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and so he stole the hearts of the people of Israel (2 Samuel 15:6).
Just as Absalom worked to steal the hearts of the people from David, so the devil works to steal the hearts of people from God. The devil tries to get people, even Christians, to doubt God’s justice or care and make them think they would be better off without God. God never promised that hard times wouldn’t come, but He has promised to be with believers and help them make it through trials. Knowing He will never leave or forsake believers can help us dispel doubts and keep our hearts true to God.
Prayer for Today:
Lord, help me guard my heart so I will never doubt Your love and care for me.
