Riding to the Top

Read Psalms 54:1 through 61:8

Hiking the high-altitude volcanoes of Guatemala can leave a novice hiker gasping for air at the side of the trail after just a few minutes. The locals (who are used to the conditions) know this, so they run along with the group, leading horses to ride when a hiker cannot take another step. At first, all of the hikers refuse to ride, but, as the trail leads higher, many hikers are glad to be able to ride the rest of the way.

This is a good picture of the way life works. When things are going well and life is easy, followers of Jesus tend to think they can handle everything on their own. But when life gets harder and trials come, the need for God’s strength and help becomes desperate.

Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken (Psalm 55:22).

Rather than trying to push through life alone, God desires that His followers cast their cares on Him at the bottom of the trail and let Him carry them to the top.

Challenge for Today:

Let go of your self-reliance and cast your cares on Jesus.
