Giant Killer

Giant Killers

Read 1 Samuel 16:14 through 19:11

John worked for the same company for over 20 years. He loved his job and worked hard at it. However, when the company experienced a major restructuring, John was laid off.

Despite dealing with creditors, prolonged unemployment and job hunting, and the pressure of supporting a family, John remained optimistic in God’s ability to help him.

“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:37).

One night during family devotions, John told his son, “David was small but he knew his God was big! He knew with God’s help, he could defeat the giant.” The story of David and Goliath served as a reminder to John and his family that the “giant” of unemployment was no match for their God. Then, like David, each one began to recall other times of trouble when God had faithfully answered their prayers for help.

Are you facing a giant today? Despite the size, consider the bigness of God. Remember a time when God provided a desperately-needed answer to you. Rest assured. His hand of providence will work in your life today as well.

Thought for Today:

No giant is too big for God.
