Identify Yourself

Read John 17:1 through 18:40

“You are not one of his disciples, are you?” the girl at the door asked Peter. He replied, “I am not” (John 18:17).

Many people view Peter’s denial of Jesus as a severe case of cold feet. His behavior was surpising, considering that a short time earlier he had wielded his sword and cut off a man’s ear (John 18:10).When Peter saw that Jesus was not going to fight with physical weapons as His attackers were, he lost heart and his boldness turned to fear.

Have you ever been too intimidated to identify yourself as a Christian because of fear or peer pressure? Do you decline when someone comes and asks you to sign a petition voicing your opinion on same-sex marriage, abortion, or some other public issue that goes against God’s Word? At times, it seems easier to say nothing at all than to show your support for God’s point of view. But God will strengthen those who commit themselves to a public stand for Him.

Instead of cowering in fear and doubt, it’s time for Christians to stand up and be willing to be identified with Christ.

Prayer Suggestion:

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you boldness, like Peter had after Pentecost.
