Darkness Shall Flee

Read Isaiah 58:1 through 60:22

Brian knew about darkness. By the time he was 12 he’d pocketed thousands of dollars dealing drugs. He quit school at 16 and filled his free time selling crack-cocaine, marijuana, PCP, and anything else he could get his hands on.

By the time he was 28, he’d spent time behind bars—once for manslaughter and once for armed robbery. Those who knew him feared him. Those who met him looked for ways to avoid him.

One afternoon, as he stepped off a downtown bus near his next drug deal, Brian heard music from a rescue mission across the street. Curiosity brought him inside, and the gospel message cut into Brian’s darkness.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you” (Isaiah 60:1)

The mission director invited him to stay overnight. One night turned into 3 months. Today, 12 years later, Brian works in an evangelical church and shares his testimony and God’s light with everyone who will listen.

Thought for Today:

No one’s darkness is so great that the Holy Spirit’s light cannot burn it away.
